I was inspired to paint this modern impressionist painting while I traveled to the beautiful island Procida, in Italy. Procida (Italian pronunciation: [ˈprɔːtʃida]) is one of the Flegrean Islands off the coast of Naples in southern Italy. The island is between Cape Miseno and the island of Ischia. With its tiny satellite island of Vivara, it is a comune of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in the region of Campania.

Marina Corricella is the oldest village of Procida. Characteristic, beautiful and romantic, arranged in an amphitheater on the sea and surrounded by nets lying on the dock, this small fishing village is so peaceful. The smell of the sea, the narrow streets, unique architecture and the total absence of cars makes the Corricella a world apart. The seventeenth-century port is famous and appreciated for its unique architecture: here you can see a tangle of arches, domes, windows, terraces, balconies, staircases and colorful facades that create a complex of buildings quite unique shapes, colors and provision of housing.

This palette knife oil painting is part of my series ''Abstract cityscapes''. I started this series of abstract cities years ago and it is a recurrent theme for me. I love to paint abstract cityscapes under bold, vivid, sometimes tormented skies - yellow, pink, purple, orange, red, blue, turquoise, even green skies, sometimes skies ''inhabited'' by huge sun or full moon...

In general I prefer to stylize the architectonic details of the houses. I paint mostly abstract cityscapes, as my main goal is to deconstruct the real architectonic shapes ( than to render them exactly as in reality) and to translate them practically in differently morphed color spots interacting with each other in various ways for generate the painterly quality of the textures, that I love so much.
