Description
COLORFUL VERNAZZA CINQUE TERRE ITALY is a commissioned palette knife oil oil painting I created for a collector from U.S. Enjoyed so much to paint this work as Cinque Terre is one of my favorite subjects.
Loved so much to remember the gorgeous colorful Vernazza while painted it again. It's colorful houses, the small harbour, those lovely boats and the beautiful church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia.
This original textural impasto palette knife oil painting on canvas depicts the scenic view of Vernazza, one of the five picturesque villages of Cinque Terre, Italy.
I love to travel and one of my favorite places is Cinque Terre, in Italy.
Cinque Terre (Five Lands) is called a small portion of the rocky coast of the Italian Riviera. It is known for its scenic beauty, one of the most photographed places on earth, the place that we imagine all the winter :sun, sea, mountains, tranquility, promenade, elegant houses with pastel facades. Here time stops ... there is something timeless in the beauty of this place...
Vernazza (Latin: Vulnetia) is a town and comune located in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, northwestern Italy. It is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region. Vernazza is the fourth town heading north, has no car traffic, and remains one of the truest "fishing villages" on the Italian Riviera.
Vernazza's name is derived from the Latin adjective verna meaning "native" and the aptly named indigenous wine, vernaccia ("local" or "ours"), helped give birth to the village's moniker.
Vernazza is not just beautiful terraced cliffs, sea, sun and luxury homes - out of town there are gorgeous terraced vineyards that adorn the mountain. Although increasingly fewer people growing handle now, it was the one of the foundations of the local economy. Currently the main occupation of the inhabitants is contemplating the Mediterranean and tourists. Dehh ... "Il dolce far niente" (the art of sweet idleness) is at home ...
Constructed in 1318 in Ligurian gothic style by the Maestri Antelami, the church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia rose on a pre-existing XI century building. It was built on a rock in front of the sea, with an impressive 40 meters belfry adorned by a pointed shape dome. It has three aisles and was widened in the XVI and XVII century.
According to the tradition, the church was built because a wooden box with the bones of Saint Margaret was found on the beach. But the inhabitants decided to build the church in the Isolotto quarter and a strong sea storm destroyed it and the relic got lost. Time after, it appeared again in the original point and the population then erected a new church there, where it stands now.
