The painting represents the islet named Sveti Stefan from Montenegro.
Sveti Stefan ( Saint Stephen ) is a picturesque town surrounded by the sea from all sides, situated in Montenegro, 6 kilometers south-est of Budva, on the Adriatic sea coast-line ( riviera ). Sveti Stefan is built on a small island off the coast. The island is connected to the beach by a man-made embankment. Three churches are situated on the island.
This settlement was mentioned in written documents in the 15th century, when 12 houses were built here. As time passed this place turned into a small town.
An Adriatic playground for the rich and famous from 1960 to the 1980, today, St. Stephen is a 5-star franchise hotel of Aman Resorts.
